Trends from the Miami Swimwear Shows for the 2011 summer season

Relax, these swimsuits won't be in stores until next year.

But for the woman who thinks a summer without a new swimsuit is like a day at the beach with no sun, there are a few trends from the swimwear designer shows recently held in Miami Beach that she might want to dive into.

The Miami Swimwear Shows are really three separate events.

The trade show at the Miami Beach Convention Center was called SwimShow 2011 and is annually all about swim manufacturers and store buyers – it's all very retail industry and business-oriented.

Salon Allure over at the W South Beach hotel was also a trade show, but for upscale luxe boutiques.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim returned for its 6th year at the Raleigh Hotel, bringing a smattering of celebs (Selena Gomez, the Kardashian sisters, Bow Wow) to extravagant catwalk presentations by fashion-forward swimwear designers.

All the photographs here are by Michael Laughlin (Beach Bunny, Ed Hardy) and Carey Wagner (Red Carter, Luli Fama). Wagner also shot the raw unedited videos at the bottom of the page.

Here are the main designer trends for swim spring/summer 2011:

VEGAS GLITZ – From jewelry effects to glossy fabrics, swimwear for 2011 is full of showgirl showstoppers.

TOUCH ME TEXTURE: Just like the movies, swim is going all 3D. There's shirring, ruching, pleating and ruffles – sometimes all over a coverup and other times just a side panel on a bikini bottom.

Ed Hardy

LINGERIE LOOKS: A little lace trim here, a little scalloped edging there gives boudoir-chic to swim styles next year. Also, sheer panels and soft pastel florals (just like luxe underwear) from this summer will make yet another comeback.

Beach Bunny

Ed Hardy

CRISS CROSS, CUTOUTS, KEYHOLES: Some of those tie-me-down straps from last year's shows have been softened this time around to something more James Bond Girl instead of Bond-age Dominitrix. The peek-a-boo effect doesn't feel so strident and in-your-face.

Beach Bunny

Luli Fama

AMERICANA: Gingham prints, army camouflage and plenty of nautical stripes as homey as apple pie…piping-hot apple pie.

TRIBAL:  Whether it's an African print or snakeskin, The Dark Continent is seeing the light in a big way.

And The Hottest Swimwear Trend From Miami Fashion Week Is...

posted on posted on Glamour.com.com

Things were even steamier in Miami than usual this weekend, when swimwear designers rolled into town to show off their sexiest new suits. And it looks like last season's most exposing trend--cutout dresses--have made their way poolside now, too. Check out a few that walked the runway at Miami Fashion Week Swim, and let us know if you'd wear 'em!

0719miami-swim-cutouts1_fa.jpg

This one piece from the White Sands Australia show reminds me of the bathing suits I used to call "French bikinis" when I was little--the kind that tie on either side, leaving just a hole to expose your belly!

0719miami-swim-az-araujo_fa.jpg

At AZ Araujo, the monokini took on a new shape thanks to a halter neckline and a bit more coverage up top--but those side cutouts (kinda like the ones on this dress Hana Soupkova wore last year) still give it plenty of sex appeal.

0719aqua-di-lara-miami-swim_fa.jpg

On the runway at Aqua di Lara, a shocking pink starburst took center stage with a plunging neckline and a teeny bikini bottom adjoined by bands of stretchy fabric. The woman who wears this one better not have any nude photoshoots scheduled in the near future, because those tan lines are going to be killer!

0719true-religion-miami-swim_fa.jpg

Much like spring 2010's runway at Michael Kors, True Religion's swimwear was all about side exposure. This one is a great way to show a bit more skin if you're bored by your old tank suit but not quite ready to go all Brazilian bombshell in bikini.

0719beach-bunny-miami-swim_fa.jpg

And finally we have the demurely named but anything but Beach Bunny (the Kardashian sisters design a collection for them!), which actually looks a lot like glorified bondage gear. Check your shyness at the door--and load up on SPF 70--when you wear this suit.

July 26, 2010, (Sawf News) - Designer Christian Audigier debuted his Ed Hardy Swimwear Spring 2011 Men's and Women's Contemporary Swim Collection on Saturday, July 16, 2010, at The Raleigh Hotel – Cabana Grande in Miami Beach, Florida.

The edgy apparel and lifestyle brand joined the lineup of designers at this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011, bringing an eclectic mix to Miami Beach with its eye-catching swim collections.

The women's collection this year features strategically placed signature Ed Hardy tattoos and is characterized by a strong feminine and vibrant flare with a mix of bright, bold colors and saturated neon's.

New embellishments included zipper accents, lurex straps, chainlink details and custom hardware and textures, taking the authentic Ed Hardy art and giving the brand a fresh, new upgrade.

New tie-dye combinations of lime paired with gold, shades of mango, vivid blues and aqua's, added a tropical twist to the runway.

Models sported structured curls - some of them accented with feathers, scarlet lips and smoky eyes.

Models that walked the runway included Chris Brown's girlfriend Jasmine Sanders, rapper Snoop Dogg son Corde Broadus, and John Legend's girlfriend Chrissy Teigen.

Celebrity and VIP attendees included model/actress and accessory designer Phoebe Price, shoe designer Lisa Pliner, N*SYNC former band mate Lance Bass, America's Next Top Model season 7 contestant Anchal Joseph, BRAVO's Miami Social's Ariel Stein and luxury handbag designer Laura Buccellati.

The 2011 collection is definitely going to generate some new Ed Hardy fans!

Ed Hardy..Oh La La

What's in a show? Fashions, flashing lights and fabulous people…right? But in the Ed Hardy swim 2010 show we can't forget to add funky tunes. Lights shooting at you from every angle in a myriad of colors and Usher's "OMG" blasting through the speakers, heads nodding and camera's flashing and this is all before the first model hits the runway.
As the ladies strutted and the fellas swayed down the catwalk I couldn't help but to notice a few familiar faces seated in the audience, one in particular just happened to be Corde' the eldest son of the one and only Snoop Dog, who also walked in the show. No wonder the ladies were hollering.
Most of us are use to an Ed Hardy design being soaked in colors and embellishments, but the few black pieces in this collection spoke as loudly as the beats did. The suits were very cheeky for the ladies and the guys show off that PERFECT "V" that we gals adore. The prints were very playful in mix colors of yellow, blues, white and reds; some with pops of color and flavor. Ed Hardy stayed VERY true to himself with TONS of chains. My Favorite piece in the collection was the sexy chain cover-up worn over a strapless bikini that appeared at the end of the show.

The show took place in one of the sexiest places on earth, South Beach, FL in the heart of Miami. The people are all about skin and color; I mean what's sexier than that? Mr. Dog's son was pretty sexy but that's a different story.
As the DJ spins a lil Jeezy for the crowd the last long legged beauty breezes down the runway. All and all, it was a pleasant surprise to see that black has claimed a spot in the ED Hardy Swim 2010.

Ed Hardy was by far the craziest show of the night. Staying true to its edgy persona, each suit was young, hip, and often decorated with Hardy's signature tattoo designs. The loud music kept the crowd rowdy and made for a wild time at the Cabana Grande. The party continued backstage where we celebrated the collection with Phoebe Price, Lance Bass, and Cordes Brodis-who walked in the show.

Ed Hardy brings an eclectic and edgy mix to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011

On Friday, July 16th, designer Christian Audigier presented his new Ed Hardy collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim at The Raleigh Hotel in South Beach. Ed Hardy maintained its tattoo edge with a stellar line-up of funky art patterns and neon colors. Models were adorned with extravagant feathered hair pieces to complete each swimwear look. There were many new tie-dye combinations with shades of lime, mango, hot pink and blues on the catwalk which added a nice tropical flare to the 2011 collection. During the show, the DJ played the hottest hip-hop songs to heighten the show's edgy theme. It was a very fun show to watch!!! Did I mention Snoop Dogg's oldest son, Corde Broadus, and Chris Brown's girlfriend, Jasmine Sanders, modeled at the show?
Top: The fabulous Lisa Pliner (wife of Donald Pliner), Evelyn Lozada (star of Basketball Wives on VH1) and Aliza Sudry sat in the first row to view Ed Hardy's 2011 swimwear collection.
Top Left: Fabian and Martina Basabe, owners of Da Vittorio Restaurant in Coral Gables, also attended the show.
Top: Corde Broadus, Snoop Dogg's oldest son, rocking the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim wearing Ed Hardy board shorts.

Top: I LOVED this last swimwear ensemble at the show. It was a simple black bikini but it had an amazing long chainlink to add an extra touch of elegance. This totally works for South Beach!
Remember to visit Ed Hardy's website to check out their collections and get your edgy bikini for the summer!

Let the Games Begin
Written by: Hadley Henriette

Let the Games BeginLife is all about expectations. Personally I think "Great Expectations" are a bit too much and sometimes it's much better to under expect and be pleasantly surprised. Well, I was quite impressed with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim aka "Swim Week." This great series of swimwear shows coincides with the most important and largest swimwear trade show in the world at the nearby Miami Beach Convention Center. Can't wait to see it on FTV? Check out the True Religion swim show from my front row view. It was a lot of fun! Jeans were translated into body-hugging suites with aplomb. Other great shows included Tibi, Poko Pano and  Shay Todd at The W. It reminded me of New York Fashion Week  - great shows, great girls – and tight lists you better be on if you want to get in. Even the Raleigh's cabanas doubled as boths for sponsors like Conair, where they had their new tools on hand and stylists from Rocco Donna to beautify attendees. Sunday capped off the weekend with some final shows, including a fun one at The Standard by Karelle Levy. All the models were her friends (including yours truly) and the clothing was made to order for each model, as part of Ms. Levy's "quickie couture" KREL 2 GO project. Miami Social's Maria Lankina was part of the ensemble cast of mannequins. Meanwhile on the other side of Miami Beach, Peroni and Six Degrees sponsored Shore Thing Sundays at The Shore club, for those that wanted to get wet and wild to live percussionists.

Now that all that bathing-suit-wearing and posing is over we can turn our attention to another one of our favorite pursuits – eating. Ahead of Miami Spice, arrives Yelp Eats! Yelp.com's special week-long $25 prix-fix menu available at some of our favorite restaurants. I'll be visiting Pacific Time, Red and AltaMar if all goes according to plan. But hurry, Sunday July 26th will be your last day to give it a try. If drinking is more your thing, check out Miami's Ultimate Cocktail Contest being held on Thursday at Sushi Samba. 20 aspiring mixologists will have 10 ingredients and a bottle of Leblon to make some liquid magic. Winner receives $500 gift certificate and an invite to the resto's 10th Anniversary extravaganza in New York City.
Saturday has two very different beach-side events. The Newport Beach Hotel hosts the Peruvian Rock Festival, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like - a celebration of all the naturally occurring quartz from Peru. Just kidding. Its rock bands from Peru performing - all the big ones you would know if you were Peruvian or like to get down to world beat. Further down the beach, the 5th Annual Beach Ball Festival will be taking place in a slightly more intimate setting- the Raleigh hotel. The annual festival pits hospitality teams against one another in competitions of dodgeball, relay races and tug of war. Let the games begin!

Mercedes-Benz is promoting its 2010 E-Klasse model with the most attractive ways a carmaker can during the summer: girls in bikini. This week, the German manufacturer is sponsoring again the Fashion Week Swim this in South Beach Miami, where prestigious swimwear brands are presenting their 2010 collections.
These brands includes names like Red Carter, True Religion Swimwear, Ed Hardy Swimwear, Cia.Maritima and this season's Mercedes-Benz Presents Designer, L*Space by Monica Wise.

"From the cutting-edge safety features of the new E-Class to the most innovative designer collections, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week incorporates the best in style and sophistication on the road and runway," said Lisa Holladay, Manager Brand Experience Marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.

With its 2010 E63 AMG, E350 Coupe and E350 Sedan, Mercedes-Benz is presenting the new Attention Assist drowsiness detection system, that emits audible and visible warning through in the form of a coffee cup icon and a "time for a rest?" message in the instrument cluster, when detecting drowsy driving patterns.

Lane Keeping Assist, aimed at preventing accidents caused by drifting across lanes, recognizes when a driver of the new E-Klasse is leaving his lane unintentionally and prompts the driver to counter-steer through vibrations in the steering wheel. Additional E-Klasse safety features include Blind Spot Assist and Night View Assist PLUS.

The E-Klasse Coupe also comes with a new color, Olivine Grey, a combination of olive green and grey to match the Chanel Kaleidoscope nail polish, the L*Space by Monica Wise swimsuits or one of the color palettes used by Maurice Villency for the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at the Raleigh Hotel.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2010 E350 coupe is priced at $48,925, while the 2010 E350 Sedan is priced at $49,475. Later this year, the E63 Sedan, the E350 4Matic sedan and E550 4Matic sedan will also be launched. Moreover, the carmaker has announced that in 2010 it will release the next iterations of the E-Klasse with the E350 BlueTEC and the E350 4Matic Wagon and the E-Klasse cabriolet.

Ed Hardy 2010 Swimsuit Collection: Never Really Liked Skulls on Clothing, But...

Posted by Maria Palma

Although I'm pretty conservative when it comes to wearing swim wear. I usually stick to simple styles and colors. However, this video of the Ed Hardy Swimwear 2010 collection taken during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim in Miami has turned me onto new and exciting things...

Ed Hardy's swimsuits are colorful - which appeal to my artsy side. I never really cared for skulls on clothing, but for whatever reason I don't seem to mind them on swimsuits.

SushiSAMBA and Ed Hardy Edible Bikini
In anticipation of Ed Hardy Swimwear's catwalk-strut at the 5th annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, Creative Director, Fawn Arthur of Sea & Sun Swimwear, and Corporate Pastry Chef, Sergio Navarro of SUSHISAMBA restaurants, unveiled Miami's first edible bikini.
The ultimate in fashion fantasy, a savory, two-piece edible replica of the 2010 "Trellis" suit was unveiled on a basking beauty soaking up the sun of Lincoln Road. Inspired by the urban streets and influenced by Japan, Brazil and Peru, "oh so sweet" tropical hues of yellow and pinks was represented by dual-colored beets, dark hues by blueberries and greens by kiwi accents.
Joining the beauty, USA Water Polo Men's National player, Thomas Hopkins, took a break from training to showcase the latest men's swim trunks from the Ed Hardy Swimwear 2010 collection.

More swimwear trends from the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim shows:

ANK by Mirla Sabino ventured deep into the jungle of the Caribbean Islands for Summer 2010. The collection featured modern prints with color-blocked versions of coral, fuchsia, burgundy, sea blue and green. Updated touches were suspender trims, multicolored stones and gold and silver-plated hardware that stays cool to the touch. Ethnic tradition was further explored in braided belts and scalloped edges which mimic undulating waves of the sea.
True Religion has always been a fashion leader in eccentric, vintage '70s style. True Religion's Swimwear' collection for 2010 collection offered a creative spin to their traditional boho-chic flavor. The 80-piece, "mix-and-match" separates were created with tone on tone colors, vintage inspired tie-dye prints, textured fabrics like faux snakeskin, plaid and camouflage. We especially loved the "Daisy-Mae" country girl looks perfect lounging in a haystack by your pool (doesn't everyone have one?)
Red Carter's addiction to surprising and delighting his audience was intact and in full force this season. The theme of his collection this season was a little bit animal, a little bit Rock and Roll and a whole lot of Space-age glamour. Red is always an innovator in the swimwear world, and this collection was no exception.

A bikini good enough to eat

Celebs including Madonna, Shakira, Janet Jackson, David Beckham, Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Christina Milian and Hillary Swank are all fans of Ed Hardy designs. To promote the Ed Hardy designer swimwear line created by French designer Christian Audigier, the good people at Ed Hardy Swimwear put together an "only in Miami" fashion fantasy event – the world's first edible bikini.

Done in association with Sushi Samba (one of the hot spots on Miami Beach's trendy Lincoln Road) on Saturday, a savory, two-piece edible replica of Ed Hardy's 2010 "Trellis" suit was unveiled on a basking beauty soaking up the sun. Inspired by the urban streets and influenced by Japan, Brazil and Peru, sweet tropical hues of yellow and pinks were represented by beets, reds with strawberries, dark hues by blueberries and greens by banana leaf accents.

We thought we had seen it all, but this edible bikini was a first for Bikini.com. We are just curious if the grapes turned into wine when the model sat down.

EVENT REPORT   07.21.09 11:46 AM
Early (and Late) Shift

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim returned to the Raleigh for its fifth annual event, this time with more designers than ever.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim returned to the pool area of the Raleigh in South Beach on July 15 for its annual swimwear showcase, which wrapped up on Sunday night. Throughout the five-day event, designers showcased their 2010 collections in the hotel pool, which has a wide shallow ledge around its perimeter where the models walked in the water, and in three tents erected in the street beside the pool and on the beach behind it. Sponsors such as Conair and American Express also created mini lounges in the poolside cabanas.

In its fifth year, the event attracted 20 designers (four more than showcased last year), which prompted organizers at IMG Fashion to reduce the time between shows and add extra slots to the schedule Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. "The Cabaña Grande [tent] has two hair and makeup [areas] backstage, so we have the ability to prep one show while another one is going on. But in the other two [tents], we just did scheduling a different way by giving [each designer] a minimum of two hours backstage," said Christina Neault, senior director of fashion and events for IMG Fashion.

Although last year's shows ran from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the hour, IMG added three 6 p.m. shows and an extra 10 p.m. slot to the schedule to accommodate the extra designers involved. Additionally, Crystal Jin and Tori Praver Swimwear opted for a more intimate showing in the hotel's penthouse suite—offered for the first time this year to accommodate the increase in designers—on Friday and Saturday afternoons. IMG worked with the designers to set up any special production elements like extra lighting or video equipment the night before their show. "[The biggest challenge] has been making sure everyone has the right amount of time backstage and that if they want scenic lighting elements, that we can work that in within the time we have to turnover venues," Neault said. She added that some designers using the same tent have shared the additional equipment to reduce their production costs.

With the additional shows came more people, nearly 12,000 throughout the week, a 10 percent increase over last year's attendance numbers. However, even though IMG didn't create additional space on site or add other venues to house the shows—which each ran about an hour late throughout the weekend—the poolside cabanas and lounge area didn't become overcrowded. "Many of the guests, especially the buyers and press, are going to all or several of the shows, so the additional people may only go to one show at a time, which will have them coming and going [throughout the night]," Neault said.

Among well-known brands such as Tibi and True Religion Swimwear, new brands showcasing this year included Bohéme Boutiques and Mercedes-Benz Presents designer Monica Wise with her line L*Space by Monica Wise.

Top sponsors included American Express, DHL, Lycra and new sponsors Make Up For Ever and Bain de Soleil, which used the week to launch its newest sunscreen spray.

The Swim Scene in Miami Beach

by N. Jayne Seward, Fashion Editor July 24, 2009

MIAMI BEACH, FLA.—Miami Beach was buzzing as swimwear designers, editors and retailers flocked to the sunny city for swimwear's biggest week in the United States. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim and SwimShow 2010 overlapped July 15–21 with runway shows, events and the annual trade show, which set the swim scene for Cruise 2010. In addition, there were several independent runway shows, cocktail parties and events that joined the anchor shows.
MBFW Swim, produced by IMG Fashion, kicked off the events on July 15 with the largest edition of runway shows to date. More than 12,000 attendees—including buyers, press and celebrities—took part in the fifth edition of the event, held at the historic Raleigh hotel. Twenty designers from Brazil, Australia, Canada, Colombia and various cities across the United States showcased their Cruise 2010 collections over the five-day run of shows. This season, there were several new additions to the shows, including Bohème Boutiques, which opened the event, as well as core contemporary and designer swim brands Vitamin A by Amahlia Stevens, Marysia Swim, Aqua Di Lara, White Sands Australia, Caffé Swimwear, Mara Hoffman, V Del Sol, Crystal Jin, Tori Praver Swimwear and Mercedes-Benz Presents designer L*Space by Monica Wise. Returning designers included Red Carter, Cia.Marítima, Tibi, Luli Fama, True Religion Swimwear, Ed Hardy Swimwear, Poko Pano, ANK by Mirla Sabino and the Xtra Life Lycra group show, which paid homage to Invista's 50th anniversary.
Several designers opted to show their lines at independent events around town. Keva by Keva J, Tyler Rose Swimwear, Liza & Tara Resort Wear and JOGO by Pooneh presented their collections in an "Emerging Designers" group show. Shay Todd and Inca presented their collections poolside at the W Hotel, and Ariel Raphael presented his collection at the rooftop lounge at the Gansevoort South Hotel. In addition, Tommy Hilfiger held a cocktail reception at his South Beach store, and Jantzen celebrated its100th anniversary with an exhibition titled "Beauty and the Beach: A Centennial Celebration of Swimwear" at the Wolfsonian-Florida International University.

Steady, focused at SwimShow
It was business as usual at SwimShow 2010, produced by the Swimwear Association of Florida. Now in its 27th year, the show featured a mix of swim and resort looks across several categories, including contemporary, surf, maternity, children's, misses and designer. The four-day trade event included the annual fashion show, the Swim Lounge happy hour and an attendee party at The Setai. According to Executive Show Director Judy Stein, there were 10 percent fewer exhibitors at this year's show, but she was, nonetheless, pleased with the turnout. "We're very excited with those numbers," Stein said. "Under normal conditions we wouldn't be happy, but in this particular economy, for a major trade show to be down 10 percent is really good. It's a tough year." And while the attendance of the show was noticeably less, most exhibitors were pleased with the quality of buyers. Manhattan Beachwear, Lenny, L*Space, Lunada Bay, O'Neill and C&M Camilla and Marc all reported positive results and orders from key accounts. Kerry Cushman, designer of Kushcush, said there was less qualifying to do, with fewer smaller and lesser-known boutiques in attendance. According to Susan Crank, president and chief executive of Lunada Bay, more appointments were scheduled this year than last year for its brands Becca by Rebecca Virtue, Betsey Johnson and Lucky Brand. "We're very happy with the quality of accounts that are here," Crank said. "We're missing a few of our specialty stores, but we'll be seeing them back in New York or at other shows."
Sonia DeMello said she was pleased with the high quality of customers who stopped at her So De Mel Swim booth and felt satisfied with her orders by the second day of the show.
Buyers came from specialty stores, boutiques and department stores, such as Neiman Marcus, Scoop, Selfridges, Harrod's, Bohème, Shopbop, Victoria's Secret, Wynn Las Vegas, Macy's, Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstorm, Anthropologie, Dianne's Beachwear, Saks Fifth Avenue and Holt Renfrew.

Ongoing trends and new hits

Retailers shopped for a range of looks varying from resort-oriented coverups and tops to new brands and unique styles. There were plenty of new brands to be found at the show, including Fox Head, Tavik, Kooey and Undrest. by the Sea. Some brands were fashion-focused and launched exciting, new lines, including Billabong's Runway line and Jantzen's Heritage Collection, while others, such as Karla Colletto, scaled back by placing its secondary line, K by Karla Colletto, on hold. Buyers were shopping for key trends of the season, including asymmetric styles, the one-piece, colorful prints with pops of neon, '80s styles, high waists and vintage styles as well as bohemian looks with ethnic prints, tie-dye and plenty of fringe. Skimpy ruched Brazilian cuts were a breakout trend on the runway and already a hit at retail, according to Tom O'Hara, owner of the Mission Beach, Fla.–based Gone Bananas. Many retailers, including Splash in the Bahamas, felt that value and price points were key to making sales, while others, such as the Wynn Las Vegas, had customers that were more interested in quality and uniqueness offered by luxe brands such as Gottex, La Perla, Maryan Melhorn, Lenny, Shan, Cosabella Mare and Vix.
As always, manufacturers were looking to achieve a balance in price point and fashion to keep customers excited about spending. Several looked to being innovative to offer price-point solutions for retailers and to create value for customers. Becca by Rebecca Virtue created a color-coded program of basics that could merchandise back to fashionable pieces in the collection, and O'Neill offered volume discounts, terms dating and new "Cha-Ching" groups with price incentives such as a 60 percent IMU and priced-to-sell suits at an attractive range of $60 to $64 to help retailers see a profitable return on
merchandise.

New designers make a splash in Miami

Fluid lines, sensual curves, precise detailing - these are attributes often associated with Mercedes Benz, not just in cars but also in fashion.

The most recent Mercedes Benz Fashion Week saw America's fashion capital for bathing beauties Miami, cranking up the heat in the city by several notches.

Descending on Miami Beach where the historic Raleigh Hotel was venue once again for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim were celebrities, trendsetters and fashionistas.

There was without any doubt a bevy of beauties with sensuous curves and chiseled features lining the venue – we're talking about the latest and best from the Mercedes Benz car factory of course.

Under the tents backstage, MAKE UP FOR EVER took care of the looks, declaring turquoise as the "it" color of summer, offering the perfect splash of color to brighten up any look from office, to beach or the club.

All focus however was on the runway where supermodels as well as celebrities sashayed in swimwear of cuts and colours from the design rooms of Mirla Sabino for ANK, Cia.Marítima and Luli Fama.

Latest looks from Tibi, True Religion Swimwear, Ed Hardy Swimwear and Poko Pano were also featured alongside the works of 10 new designers including Monica Wise whose well fitting designs in stunning fabrics are a hot favourite among Hollywood's best bods like Cameron Diaz and Jessica Alba.

Taking on the Miami runway under the label L*Space, Wise unveiled a capsule collection in partnership with OmniPeace,a humanitarian fashion brand that donates a portion of its profits to charities.

The L*Space capsule collection featuring coconut detailing and bone-like motifs was named after African villages affiliated with the OmniPeace project to eradicate extreme poverty in Africa by 2025.

The event at Miami's South Beach which celebrates the sexiest swimsuit designs in the world also paid homage to one element that swim-gear can't do without - lycra.

INVISTA, the maker of lycra fiber marked its 50th anniversary with a presentation of looks from the past, present and future.

Also turning heads – the Marysia collection by Maria Dobrzanska Reeves who used to live in lycra being a former ballerina; an edgy new contemporary swimwear and resort wear by Leah Madden for White Sands Australia; and Vitamin A by California girl Amahilia Stevens who says bikinis are a personal obsession.

The four day event was the fifth Swim season for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and follow from the annual Berlin summer splash, held early in July and New York's Fall 2009 show in February.

2010 Swim Week dominates Miami Beach like never before

Paulina Casado
July 30, 5:43 AM
As the tents have broken down, the garments shipped away, models back to NY for season, and production teams busy preparing for next string of shows, the storm that was Swim Week seems but a mere outrageous memory for Miami Beach.
As in seasons past, the week of July 15-21 consisted of a slew of models and representatives showcasing what will be seen and available for consumers for the swim season in cruise and summer of 2010. With the swim category seemingly being the now only recession safe piece of the fashion retail industry, designers, brands, sponsors, marketers and interestingly hotels have taken what was once a grouped collection of shows and events to a widespread and enormous level for this season. With host venues such as Nikki Beach, laid-back Standard, uber-Fountainbleau Hotel and the newest additions of W South Beach and Ft. Lauderdale included in the lineup, Swim Week has now stretched into a behemoth of an event extending among miles of beautiful coastal beaches.
Fashion show mega producers IMG did set up shop for Mercedes Benz Swim Week  once again at its home venue of the Raleigh Hotel  with daily lineups running from 4-10 p.m.  in the three always recognizable runway beach tents. Collections included such names as Luli Fama, Ank, Ed Hardy, True Religion, V de Sol, Red Carter (local and Victoria's Secret alum) and newcomers Aqua Di Lara, L*Space, Caffe', Vitamin A and others. Ample sponsored off-runway pop-up installations were available to guests including massage cabanas, refresh makeup stations by Makeup Forever and Chambord tasting bars. Every evening ended with off-site or on site at the Raleigh pool or view defying rooftop after-parties for models, staff, guests and industry professionals as well as celebrities such as Michael Bay, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Gilles Marini, Jeffrey Donovan and more in tow!
To go along with the already swamped schedule for Mercedes Benz Swim Week, competing time slots were found all over the beaches such as Swim Week at the gorgeous Setai whom ran shows and events daily partnering with such names as Cosmo en Espanol, Inside Fashion World Media and Swim Associations SwimShow 2010 all featuring runway shows such as Summer Splash, Lila Nikole, Naked Lotus and Accessorized by Diesel. The not officially open W South Beach  hosted shows by designers such as Chloe, Inca, Shay Todd and Lycra while north property W Ft. Lauderdale presented a show and pool party by Amaya Swimwear.
Open to the stars, the Gansevoort Hotel rooftop lounge Plunge opened to newcomers Jackie Brown and Miami Socials Ariel Stein collections while off the water, at the Catalina, Betty Bangs presented its rock inspired swimwear fashion show in conjunction with a series of Warren Lane's custom motorcycle creations set to a live music backdrop. Crisscrossing the island, the Standard Hotel  hosted a hush-hush opening party including presentations by local designers while the Fontainebleau's infamous LIV nightclub was the backdrop for a collection of swim, fashion and accessory designers all under the named Splashion event umbrella which included installations, live booths and cult followed fashions brands Krelwear, Nazly V, Ecoist and other favorites.
In store events were hosted by brand impresario Tommy Hilfiger to debut the newest collection to a select group of insiders and clientele, as well as an Eres swim pop-up installation to unveil the new 2010 collection was held at the Webster boutique. Swim brand giant Jantzen honored 100 years in the swim business with a private event and currently running exhibition at the Wolfsonian museum in South Beach with an incredible collection of images and pieces spanning a century of swim evolving in the industry.

FJ Girls Female Celebrity News

Female Celebrity News

Intriguing headline, probably hasn't appeared on any other celebrity site YET and that is "edible bikini's", an interesting concept whether there is a swimsuit version we are not sure, if there is, potentially you get more to eat. Personally came up with the idea of "water soluble" bikinis…..not sure whether this would catch on though! Edible Bikini's…..bringing you cutting edge fashion with a difference, and fashion you can eat, sounds great……learn more below!

Sushi Samba's edible bikini modelled at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2009 in Miami, FLModel that is trying out this new "tasty" idea is Kaitlyn Collins and the event was Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2009 in Miami. The savory, two-piece edible replica of Ed Hardy's new 'Trellis' swimsuit was created with strawberries, star fruit, blueberries and banana leaf accents. Kaitlyn Collins was joined by USA Water Polo Men's Player, Thomas Hopkins, when launching it at the fashion event. Pictured: Kaitlyn Collins Picture by: SUSHISAMBA / Splash News.
Whether this is going to catch on with featured female celebs on this site is difficult to say, this really is cutting edge stuff, not even sure if Rihanna would even go for this, but just remember, if it does catch on,  you saw it here first. If Megan Fox decides to start wearing this, the photos will be here complete with bikini eating……guaranteed!

christian audigier, the famous French designer, returned to Paris from Los Angeles, planning for a fashion show which will be held on the October Paris Fashion Week. Needless to say, Christian Audigier is widely welcomed by those Hollywood superstars since you can easily find that many of them wear Ed hardy T-shirts when go shopping. What's more, he also has close relationships with those superstars. A typical example is that in May he has invited star Madonna to design for Ed hardy.
Ed hardy and Christian Audigier swimwear is the newest addition to the ed hardy apparel collection. Each piece is made separately with the creative original graphics of Don Ed Hardy the master of tattoo art. The process of the manufacturing is very similar to the way tattoos are applied. Instead of going into the skin, the prints are sublimated into rich Italian swimwear fabrics.

Born in Iowa in 1931, the U.S. with over 40 years of experience in the world of the drawings in the skin, got back in 2002 in the world of fashion with his trademark Don Ed Hardy. Nothing serious, just tattoos stamped on their shirts rather than skin, as you can do now as Boog and other people with tattoo on face. The fact is that in 2004, Christian Audigier, designer of famous brands like Lee, or Von Dutch True Religion, is associated with the brand and creates a strong impact on the fans of tattoos as detractors.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

I just wrapped up an exciting weekend in South Beach attending two amazing shows for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  The show not only stayed in the family but stayed true to Greenwich roots. I proudly watched on as my sister, a Greenwich High School graduate, Alexis Knapp organized and produced the True Religion and Ed Hardy Swimsuit Shows with the help of her staff at Treskoi Public Relations.

TRUE RELIGION SWIMSUIT SHOWTrue Religion stayed true to its denim and all American feel offering a collection of swimwear in soft suede like materials and neutral tones. A spin on the Dazzy Dukes offered a fresh alternative to a two piece swim set with a showcase of denim bikini boxers attached to a plaid sleeveless shirt. The back of the styled one-piece was open creating a bare bones yet substantial feel to the piece.

I brought along my childhood best friend and talented designer Tiffany Martinez as a sounding board to view both collections. The vibe inside the standing room only venue at the Raleigh Hotel on South Beach was bold with brilliant colors to complement the image of the art deco style the beach is so known for.

Samantha Knapp, Arie Setton of Ed Hardy SwimwearThe Ed Hardy Swimsuit Collection was a bolder interpretation for baring it all!  President of the company Arie Setton speaks of the line as being true to the brand, offering the same flare, decorative detail and imaging of skulls, birds of paradise, rhinestones consistent with the brand.

There's one more note to make on this mini Miami stay. I was thrilled to be able to provide a decorative pillow for the show gift bags. Please come into the store at 241 East Putnam Avenue to check out what we gave out! We love to hear from clients and homeowners with decorating ideas and challenges!

The 2010 Ed Hardy swimwear collection produced by Los Angeles-based Sea and Sun, offers "mix and match" separates, Lurex fabrics, strategically placed tigers and unique embellishments including custom hardware. Fawn Arthur, creative director for Sea and Sun, brought the collection in a fresh different direction for 2010, with details including screen-printing, textures, foils and graffiti. The Ed Hardy swimwear show is always the hottest ticket in town, and for good reason (even D.J. Irie spins the tunes.) It's perfect to channel that rock and roller in you.

Miami Beach swimwear shows ride on wave of old glamour for 2010
By Lisa Orkin Emmanuel (CP) – July 20, 2009
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Old glamour is back in a big way, or at least that's the indication from this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim fashion shows.
Hot pink proved to be the hottest hue, furthering an already popular ready-to-wear look. It was all over the runways at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach, as were bathing suits adorned with jewelry and hardware.
There also was a lot of transparent material, creating seductive illusions to tempt the crowd of retailers, editors and stylists previewing 2010 trends. As for shape: it was all about the bandeau and the monokini (attached bikini) or cutout one-pieces.
The shows, which ended Sunday night, displayed many high-waisted and ruffled looks. Many bathing suits were sexy in a feminine way - not overtly flashing a lot of skin.
Cover-ups and beach dresses also played an important role in many collections, and the legend of Gianni Versace still loomed large in his adopted hometown.
Gretta Monahan, a stylist and co-host of Bravo's "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style," was in town to host the Xtra Life Lycra show.
"I think sexy will be reinvented for 2010," she said. Women will see "that they can wear a lot more, but still look sexy."
ED HARDY
The Ed Hardy show was pure rock 'n' roll and to prove it the models walked down the runway with teased and braided hair - a cross between Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga.
One suit had a floral print on a turquoise background with three pink straps, with gold studs. A black bikini had a white skull and red hearts. Of course, there was a lot of hot pink, studs and shimmering embellishments, too.
Strategically placed tigers also spiced up the suits.
TRUE RELIGION
Best known for its jeans, it's no surprise that denim figured into True Religion's "swim" show.
But animal prints, including zebra and leopard, as well as tie-dyes also got their due.
Some swimsuits were studded, while others shimmered. There was a zebra-print (over a subtle tie-dye!) grey bikini paired with white jean shorts. Also, a black bikini was embellished with two bands of studs on the bottoms. Another bikini's top looked like a jean vest and it was paired with red and white plaid bottoms.
